Ambulance crash injures

A critically ill two-year-old and her mother have been injured when the ambulance transporting them to hospital left the M40 motorway and crashed down an embankment.  The child was being rushed from Warwick Hospital to Horton Hospital in Banbury after suspicions were raised at Warwick that she was suffering from meningitis.  Her family have stated that the child was not strapped in.

Motorist survives 80ft cliff fall

A motorist has survived an 80ft cliff fall after his car slid from the road and into the sea near Brighton. The man managed to free himself from the submerged vehicle and swam back to the rocks with only minor injuries.  The 33-year-old said that he was lucky to have missed the Undercliff promenade during the fall, and instead landed on rocks in the sea.

Cyclists pay the price for Britain’s potholes

With claims being made by the Central Government that councils are to blame for the country’s pothole problem, cyclists seem to be paying the price.  According to numerous cycling charities, over 1000 cyclists are injured as a result of potholes every year.  Councils, however, argue that the problem is down to a lack of funding for road maintenance.

Tyre importance re-evaluated following Bestival crash deaths

Following a fatal crash last September, a coroner is to urge the government to re-evaluate the dangers of ignored vehicle tyre age.  The crash involved a coach returning from the popular music festival on the Isle of Wight, when one of the 20-year-old tyres burst on the busy A3 in Surrey.  Three of the passengers were killed and the others sustained serious injuries.

Brake welcomes move to scrap 80mph plans

Road safety charity Brake has strongly welcomed news reported in The Financial Times that Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin is resolved to cancel proposals for 80mph motorways, although an official announcement may not be made until later in the year.
